Challenges & HMW

Problems found in the research, turned into "How might we" (HMW) design questions that connect to the business, user, and tech goals. Used as workshop material and as a check on whether features really answer the problem.

Tip

A good HMW does not name its solution. "How might we build an app?" is too narrow. "How might we make fans happy?" is too broad. Each HMW below names who, what they want to achieve, and the constraint.

Main challenges

These three challenges have the biggest impact, and all of them touch the north star (registered fans).

1HMW
How might we help new viewers understand the X Card in one screen, before kickoff?

Problem: the card rules are only explained by the media, not by XSERIES
Goals: Understand the rules Own audience

2HMW
How might we turn 60 thousand followers into fans we can contact directly?

Problem: the whole audience sits on other parties' platforms
Goals: Own audience Owned data

HMW board

All challenges, grouped by goal side. The label in the corner of each note is the phase and the fan journey stage that the HMW guards. This board is interactive: write ideas on each note, rewrite the HMW, or add a new HMW. Saved in your browser, export to share.

Business5

Tickets, sponsors, position

HB1Phase 1 · Decision
How might we take fans from IG content to the right seat on GOERS, without confusion and in a measurable way?

Problem: Tickets only through a bio link, FAQ and prices as images, conversion not measured (Digital touchpoints)

Goals & first idea: Measurable tickets Buy tickets. Ticket page with a seat map, UTM on all links

HB2Phase 1–2 · Match day
How might we give sponsors digital space that attaches to game moments, not banners?

Problem: Sponsors only appear on physical assets: banners, jerseys, backdrops (Sponsors & partners)

Goals & first idea: Digital sponsors. "Presented by" on cards, MVP, and the card explainer (Benchmark)

HB3Phase 1 · Awareness
How might we make XSERIES recognizable across editions, while each edition keeps its own theme?

Problem: The accent color changes every edition with no core color (Identity audit)

Goals & first idea: Position in SEA. Core palette + edition accent (Color palette)

HB4Phase 1 · Awareness
How might we welcome fans from outside Indonesia without building two sites?

Problem: XS-3 brings Malaysian players and European legends; all info is in Indonesian only

Goals & first idea: Position in SEA. A bilingual site from the start

HB5Phase 2 · Retention
How might we prove to sponsors that XSERIES has its own audience?

Problem: XS-2 audience claims cannot be verified yet (XS-2 audience claim)

Goals & first idea: Digital sponsors Own audience. Registered fan dashboard and sponsor reports

User7

Understand, buy, take part, come back

HU1Phase 1 · Consideration
How might we help new viewers understand the X Card in one screen, before kickoff?

Problem: The card rules are only documented by Bola.com (Format & rules)

Goals & first idea: Understand the rules. A flippable card explainer

HU2Phase 2 · Match day
How might we keep the card chaos readable while a match is running?

Problem: Viewers do not know which card is active and for how long

Goals & first idea: Take part during matches. Card timeline in the live match companion

HU3Phase 1–3 · Post-match
How might we make fans care about the franchise teams, not only the guest stars?

Problem: The highest views come from Falcão and Ricardinho; the four teams have weak identities (Franchise teams)

Goals & first idea: Connected outside the season. Team pages, rivalries, player cards

HU4Phase 3 · Retention
How might we keep fans connected during the long gap between editions (12 months from XS-2 to XS-3), without a heavy production load?

Problem: IG content stops between editions (Edition timeline)

Goals & first idea: Connected outside the season Own audience. Archive, card collection, YouTube clips

HU5Phase 2 · Match day
How might we make YouTube viewers feel present in the arena?

Problem: Live on GOS YouTube, some content for members only

Goals & first idea: Take part during matches. Predictions, MVP vote, free vs member explanation

HU6Phase 1 · Awareness
How might we help someone who just saw one reel understand what XSERIES is and where to go, in 10 seconds?

Problem: Reels and creator reposts do not lead to one place; the bio link goes straight to GOERS (Digital touchpoints)

Goals & first idea: Own audience Position in SEA. A landing page that answers what, when, where, and who on the first screen

HU7Phase 2–3 · Post-match
How might we make the best moments of each match easy to find and share after the event ends?

Problem: The only structured results archive is on Lapangbola, a third party, and only for XS-1. XS-2 results only exist in media articles; highlights are scattered across YouTube and IG (Digital touchpoints)

Goals & first idea: Connected outside the season Position in SEA. Edition archive and shareable moment cards

Tech4

Fast, resilient, easy to change, measurable

HT1Phase 1 · Awareness, Match day
How might we keep the site fast during traffic spikes on reveal day and match day?

Problem: Player reveals and match day trigger spikes; the current placeholder site is empty

Goals & first idea: Fast & accessible Withstands spikes. Static site on a CDN

HT2Phase 2 · Match day
How might we update scores and cards during live, even when there is no automatic data?

Problem: Not yet known whether production data can be accessed (Real-time score data)

Goals & first idea: Withstands spikes. Manual operator panel as a fallback

HT3Phase 1 · All stages
How might we let a small content team update the schedule and roster in minutes?

Problem: Info scattered across stories; content owner not known yet (Content team)

Goals & first idea: CMS. CMS with a simple content model

HT4Phase 1 · Retention
How might we collect fan data in a way that is trusted and legally compliant?

Problem: No fan data owned by XSERIES; PDP Law No. 27/2022 applies

Goals & first idea: Owned data Own audience. Clear consent on the waitlist
